OCTRON built a unique custom installation for blowing off water from train wagons.

An Antwerp branch of a large international transport company handles and transports sugar in bulk. They arrange transport of goods on land, at sea and in the air. The transport of sugar on land is carried out by freight trains. The sugar is loaded and unloaded in bulk and should have as little contact with water as possible. Before the wagons with sugar enter the hall to be unloaded, the lower part of the wagon must be made free of droplets. Ronair developed a drying system with air knives that blows off the water from the underside of the wagons.

The OCTRON installation consists of air knives, a blower, piping and an electrical cabinet.

  • A total of five air knives are responsible for blowing the wagon dry. Three air knives blow off the bottom and the other two air knives blow off the sides.
  • The blower with inlet silencer has a capacity of 45kW. It is mounted on a chassis next to the train track and ensures the supply of air to the air knives.
  • The piping consists of a distribution collector and supply duct. The pipes are made of stainless steel.
  • The freestanding electrical cabinet consists of a Siemens frequency controller that controls the blower. The stainless steel cabinet is located next to the installation and is remotely controlled by a Profinet signal.
